FAQs

What is the best bed for a bad back?

Optimizing the level of support the spine receives during the night is essential to getting high quality sleep. Studies show that when the correct amount of support is supplied, the spine remains aligned and a person can enjoy a thorough rest period for the entire night. However, if the spine is not aligned due to a non-supportive sleep surface, a person's back muscles work throughout the night in an attempt to position the spine properly. As a result, a person wakes up feeling sore and unrested.

All Campbell Mattresses are designed to give optimal spine support for a great night of restful sleep.  However, if you have a bad back or back pain, our Diamond Series mattresses are specifically designed to offer additional spine support for your proper sleep posture. Compare our Diamond Series mattresses to brands like Posturepedic® or Stearns & Foster® and you will see the quality and price difference with Campbell!

What type of bed is best for heavy people?

As our weight increases so does our body mass. You need a supportive mattress that will place you in the correct sleep posture.  Recent research indicates poor sleep may actually lead to weight gain, so a high quality mattress is necessary for your health.  Campbell Mattress Company has developed a highly supportive and durable mattress for extra support known as the XL Support which supports up to 600 pounds! The edge of this mattress also features highly engineered support for much easier entry and exit. Talk with your physician about your health issues, then check out our XL Support mattress and begin to notice a difference!

What is an Adjustable Bed?

A movable or adjustable base bed offers numerous health benefits for both couples and individuals. Studies have found that by simply using a movable bed to raise an individual’s head and feet at a slight angle (6-15 degrees), an individual can benefit from increased blood circulation, reduced stress on the spine, and fewer pressure points. Raising the head of a movable bed can help with conditions such as sleep apnea; acid reflux (GERD) and can even reduce snoring!

Movable beds adjust to meet your needs and preferences. Be fully supported as you read, study, watch television, use your laptop—you get the idea!

Finding the perfect sleeping position can help relieve back or muscle strain and gently soothe your body into a deep sleep. When you fall asleep more quickly and stay asleep much longer, you enjoy a longer period of rest, which will help you be more alert and energized the next day.

The Campbell Mattress Diamond Series and our Regenerest Series mattresses are specifically designed to work with an adjustable power base or foundation. Find your local Campbell Mattress dealer today at http://www.campbellmattress.com/find-a-retailerto learn more about how an adjustable bed foundation or power base can help you sleep more soundly and finally get a great night of sleep!

How do I match a bed I slept on in a hotel?

Sleeping well in a hotel bed when you don’t sleep well at home can be a signal that your present bedding is worn out. Many hotels in the Midwest and southern states use the Campbell Mattress Two Sided Hotel/Motel Mattress for excellent durability and support.  Now you can have the Campbell Hotel/Motel Mattress in your own home and enjoy the extra support and value of a true, two-sided mattress again!

Should I replace my foundation when purchasing a new mattress?

Yes! A good foundation is as important as a good mattress! Not all manufacturers use the same type of foundations. It is critical for a new mattress to get the proper support from the foundation. Your local Campbell Mattress dealer is an expert source of information on our mattresses and foundations and will recommend the proper foundation for use with your new mattress.

Question: What are the measurements of each mattress size?

The bedding industry has developed standard mattress sizes: Twin, Full, Queen, King and California King.  See dimensions below.

Twin (Also known as a single bed): A bed measuring 39 inches wide by 74 inches long.

Full (Also known as a double or a standard bed): A bed that measures 54 inches wide and 74 inches long.

Queen: A bed that measures 60 inches wide by 80 inches long.

King: A bed that measures 76 inches wide by 80 inches long.

California King (Also known as a Western King): A bed that measures 72 inches wide by 84 inches long.

What is the best way to protect my new mattress?

Investing in a waterproof mattress protector is the easiest way to protect your mattress. Should a problem arise with your mattress, it must be free of stains in order to qualify for a warranty exchange or repair. In addition to keeping your mattress free of stains, many mattress protectors also have the ability to repel dust mites and protect you from allergens.

How can I make my mattress softer or more comfortable?

It's relatively easy to make your mattress softer - simply add one of our Memory and Gel Foam Mattress Toppers.  Campbell Mattress has several mattress toppers available to provide the comfort you need. Many of our customers use Campbell mattress toppers on sofa beds, fold-away beds, and on air beds to provide greater comfort.  Check with us at [email protected] and we can help you out!

What are comfort layers?

Comfort layers are padding materials placed on top of the innerspring or foam core that provide cushioning and extra comfort. The number of layers and types of materials vary from model to model. They can be made of foam, cotton, wool or synthetic materials that are then wrapped by and quilted to a durable cover. Comfort layers can vary from 'zone to zone' on a particular mattress to help conform to different areas of the body.

What is motion transfer?

When a sleeper's movements cause a mattress to move and shift, this is called motion transfer. Motion transfer between partners can interrupt normal sleep. Individually pocketed coil innerspring systems such as the UltraCoil system included in Campbell’s Diamond Series Mattresses reduce motion transfer. Campbell also uses the latest technology memory and gel foam in our Regenerest Series Mattresses that virtually eliminate motion transfer, creating an uninterrupted sleeping environment that means better sleep for you!

What is Memory Foam?

Memory form, or visco-elastic foam, is a special type of foam that responds to the body's temperature and then perfectly conforms to the body's shape. Memory foam was originally designed by NASA to relieve the pressure of in-flight G-forces experienced by astronauts.

As the memory foam gently conforms to your body it redistributes your weight over the surface of the mattress.  More of the body is in contact with the sleep surface. This ability of memory foam to conform to different body shapes allows every square inch of your body to be supported and reduces skin pressure by as much as 50%. This improves the circulation and reduces pressure points as well as spinal pressure.

A Swedish bedding corporation quickly marketed the first generation of memory foam mattresses to general consumers: Swedish memory foam by Tempur Pedic ®. We believe these are good mattresses, but a little too firm and very, very expensive!  The Campbell new generation memory and gel foams offer higher quality at a substantially lower price.  Remember, we do not ask our customers pay for a $100 million corporate advertising budget, so we can maintain our low prices and still offer you the latest in sleep technology.  See our Regenerest Series of Memory and Gel Foam mattresses made with all natural materials as a comparison. If you want a more comforting mattress that is priced substantially less than an iComfort® or other "famous name" foam mattresses, then check the reviews about our Regenerst Mattresses.

Is a Memory Foam mattress good for larger people, those who weigh over 250 pounds?

Those weighing over 250 pounds often find that over time some memory foam beds do not fully regain shape as it should. Therefore memory foam mattresses may not be appropriate for everyone. At Campbell Mattress we specifically engineered an innerspring mattress called the XL Support for those with a bigger frame or who need extra support.  Our XL Support mattress will support up to 600 pounds!

Is the Density of Memory Foam important?

Density is another factor to consider when selecting a memory foam product. What does the term "density" mean in the world of memory foam? The density of a piece of memory foam is how much one cubic foot of the foam weighs.

The general rule is the higher the density rating of the foam the firmer the foam will feel. If you are a larger person or like the feel of a firmer bed you should look for a product with a density of 5 pounds. If you enjoy a softer feel you should look for something in a 3 or 4 pound density. However, many memory foam beds contain multiple layers of gel and memory foams, making a direct comparison between mattresses based on density levels difficult.  Campbell's Regenerest Series Mattresses utilize a variety of memory foam and comfort layers to provide wonderful support and comfort.

I saw an inexpensive Memory Foam bed imported from China.  Is this a good deal?

Unfortunately, the quality and safety of imported Memory Foam offered in many mattress corporation stores and department stores is giving memory foam a bad name. The reason is that this foam is very low density and therefore has very few genuine memory foam qualities. The recovery time is so slow that the foam does not actually conform to the body's shape. Better and higher quality Memory Foam will conform to your body's shape by delicately sensing the body's temperature and then cradling you in comfort and support. The true Memory Foam experience can be extremely comfortable. Campbell Mattress Company only uses the highest quality and safest memory and gel foams.  All of our foams are certified by CertiPUR-US® to be free from harmful ingredients or materials for the safety of you and your family.  Please check, as some imported foams are not certified.

Does Memory foam leave body impressions?

The Memory foam originally created by NASA and then further modified by corporations in Sweden for therapeutic use left body impressions. The Memory and Gel foams used by Campbell Mattress are a marked improvement over these original foams. As you sleep, memory foam gently molds to your body. In the morning, it slowly recovers from compression. But as with all mattresses, some compression of the Memory foam over time is a natural event.

I heard some innerspring mattresses sleep cooler than foam mattresses?

If you are concerned about the sleep surface of foam mattresses, there is data that Campbell innerspring mattresses are 28% to 40% cooler than a foam mattress.  You must be careful and be sure you have the correct innerspring in your mattress to allow maximal air-flow and coolness. Campbell only uses maximal air flow innersprings in our mattresses so you have a great sleep experience and will remain cool for the optimal sleep you need.

Are Campbell Mattresses safe?

Campbell Mattress Company only uses CertiPUR-US certified foam products which are certified free from harmful chemicals and gases.  Our fire retardant materials are all natural fibers and components.  Plus we only use Greenguard certified components in our bedding.  We do this to keep you safe, plus our own families sleep on these mattresses, so we want everyone to sleep safely and soundly!  Not all mattress manufactures use these types of certified materials, so please be careful when you are looking at mattress, even a US made mattress!

How do I clean my mattress?

Keeping bedding clean is simple with the use of a protective mattress pad. Vacuuming is the only recommended cleaning method. If you must clean a stain, use mild soap with cold water and apply lightly! Do not soak a mattress or foundation, and never use dry cleaning fluid of any type on your mattress; these chemicals could damage some of the comfort and upholstery materials.

How often should I rotate my mattress?

We recommend you rotate your mattress head to toe once every three months.

How much should I spend on a new sleep set?

A good night's sleep is one of the best investments you can make, so buy the best mattress you can afford. Keep in mind that most of us spend as much as one-third of our time in bed. Your investment will cost just pennies per night over the next ten years! In fact, a $1000 sleep set costs less than 28 cents per night (based on a full 10-year warranty).

Mattress prices range greatly: from $299 to over $4,000 for a queen set from one of the major mattress corporations. However you will find a Campbell Mattress offers extreme high quality, and at very affordable prices.  Plus Campbell Mattresses and all components are made in America.  Unlike the major mattress corporations, we do not spend $500 million a year on advertising – a cost you help pay for when you purchase their beds.  Shop local, support your neighborhood Campbell dealer, feel good and save money in the process!

Does a lack of sleep cause high blood pressure? What other medical problems can occur?

Recent research from major Cardiology centers in the US show that a lack of proper sleep makes high blood pressure more difficult to treat.  Many people in this study who slept poorly required multiple medications to treat their high blood pressure.  Once they were able to sleep better, their blood pressure decreased, and they were able to decrease the amount of medicine they needed.

Other research indicates poor sleep may weaken your immune system and lead to more infections.  If you are overweight, a good night of sleep will help you to lose weight more quickly!  And perhaps most surprisingly, poor sleep may increase the risk of more aggressive cancers.

At Campbell Mattress, we monitor sleep research very closely to make sure our mattresses are up-to-date, use safe materials, and provide the support and comfort you need to protect your health with a great night of sleep!

What are the regulations regarding the fire resistance of mattresses?

Beginning on July 1st, 2007, all mattresses being manufactured in the USA must meet the new Federal Government Law on F.R., “Flammability Regulations.” This law requires that every mattress set must have a label stating that it meets the federal standard. This regulation requires that mattresses be significantly more resistant to an open flame than previously outlined in individual state rulings. All Campbell Mattresses are completely made in America and meet these new flammability regulations, by way of fire-resistant fiber barriers, not with the use of hazardous chemicals. The new F.R. Law is designed to allow individuals an extra 20-30 minutes to escape the bedroom in the event of a fire. It also allows firefighters more time to get into a dwelling, thus preventing further damage. It is estimated that this new law, now in effect, will save 270 lives each year and prevent as many as 1,330 injuries.

How is Campbell Mattress Company helping communities?

  • “A little bit of good news, the Company (Campbell Mattress) that I was working with that are donating bed sets for victims of the tornadoes, got back with me today, they are just finishing up making the foundations today, and if the logistics work out they will be sending them by truck from Mo. to Illinois tomorrow! And they should eventually end up in the homes of some East Peoria high school students that were displaced by the tornado. (unless they get some between now and then!) I am hoping to follow through to where they end up!  Huge shout out to Campbell Mattress in Cape Girardeau, Missouri!"   Sharon Tinin helped us provide bedding.

Campbell Mattress is excited to be able to help out within our community and help people that risk their lives everyday for others!   Scott County Rural Fire and Rescue…."Thank you to Campbell Mattress for making this possible."
  • Campbell Mattress Company also works with our community churches to assist those in need, and especially many families who have lost their homes to fire or other disasters.

I have a question about Prop 65 in California

INFO ABOUT PROP 65 (CALIFORNIA RESIDENTS).

Prop 65 requires all companies to include a warning stating, "This product contains chemicals known to the state of California to cause cancer or birth defects or other reproductive harm."

Prop 65 initiated in 1986 and requires the State of California to publish a list of chemicals known to cause cancer or reproductive harm. The complete list of over 800 chemicals is available at http://oehha.ca.gov/proposition-65

As this list can often be modified or updated, companies may not be certain whether it is necessary to provide the warning for particular products. A company can do ongoing, comprehensive testing for each of the many chemicals (in order to become certain they must give the Prop 65 warning) or provide the warning even though they are not certain. We have chosen the second approach to address this ordinance, and this notice serves as our Prop 65 warning to consumers in the State of California regarding purchase of Campbell Mattresses.

However, we do not have reason to believe that our mattresses contain the chemicals on the Prop 65 list. Our mattresses only use Greenguard certified water based adhesives, and all of the foam we use is CertiPUR-US certified free of harmful chemicals and are ultra-low VOC.

Check out these websites for more information:  http://certipur.us and http://greenguard.org/en/index.aspx

Because we cannot be 100% sure in all situations regarding the Prop 65 requirements, and we depend on outside vendors for some of our mattress components, we choose to give you  “safe harbor” warning. Rather than use the “standard” Prop 65 warning that a company uses if it is certain that its product contains the listed chemicals, we want to let our customers know that we are giving the notice/warning to protect you, but not because we have reason to believe that our products contain carcinogenic chemicals.
